NSW Driver Knowledge Test practice

DrivePrep NSW is an independent iOS app for practising NSW Driver Knowledge Tests with focused question banks, category practice, mock tests, and progress tracking.

Best for learners who want short practice sessions and a clear view of what to review next.

Short answer

DrivePrep NSW helps you practise the NSW Driver Knowledge Test and related knowledge tests. It is a supplementary study app, not an official Service NSW or Transport for NSW test.

What does DrivePrep NSW help with?

The app turns a large question bank into focused practice. You can choose a licence pathway, practise by category, answer questions with feedback, bookmark difficult questions, flip through flashcards, take a 45-question mock test, review the questions you got wrong, and watch a readiness score that tells you when you look test-ready.

Which NSW knowledge tests are supported?

RiderRider Knowledge Test question practice
Rider SMVScooter and moped knowledge-test practice
Heavy RigidHeavy vehicle rigid question practice
Heavy CombinationHeavy vehicle combination question practice

How should I use a practice app?

  1. Read the relevant NSW handbook and official question-bank material first.
  2. Use category practice to find the topics you need to strengthen.
  3. Use mock tests to check your readiness, then review incorrect answers.
  4. Keep returning to weak areas instead of relying on one pass result.

Is DrivePrep NSW official?

No. DrivePrep NSW is an independent study tool. Official rules, eligibility, fees, test arrangements, and current question-bank information come from NSW Government and Service NSW. The app does not guarantee a pass.

How do the different NSW knowledge tests compare?

The car DKT is a multiple-choice computer test, sat in person, with a fee due for each attempt (DKT Online is a separate paid course-and-test pathway, taking roughly 4–6 hours in total, with one retest allowed after 12 hours if you don't pass). The rider, Rider SMV, and heavy vehicle knowledge tests each use 45 multiple-choice questions drawn from their own official question bank, and NSW offers those tests in 10 languages with audio and interpreter support available.

Common questions

What's the minimum age to sit a NSW knowledge test?

You can enrol in DKT Online from 15 years and 11 months, but you can only apply for a learner licence, and sit the in-person DKT, once you turn 16.

Do all the NSW knowledge tests have 45 questions?

The rider, Rider SMV, and heavy vehicle knowledge tests each use 45 questions drawn from their own official question bank. NSW's car DKT overview doesn't publish a fixed question count, but it's confirmed to be a multiple-choice computer test.

Which handbook should I read for my test?

Start with the Road User Handbook for car, rider, and general road-rule topics. Heavy vehicle candidates should also read the Heavy Vehicle Driver Handbook and Load Restraint Guide. DrivePrep NSW organises practice around these same topic areas.

Can I switch pathways in DrivePrep NSW?

Yes. The app keeps Car, Rider, Rider SMV, Heavy Rigid, and Heavy Combination as separate practice pathways, so you can focus on the licence you're currently working toward and revisit another pathway later.
